Blue Room with Yellow Furniture, a Yellow Hat, and an Ear

If you search for images of Vincent Van Gogh’s “Yellow Room” you’ll find three versions of the artist’s bedroom in his house in Arles, France painted over the course of two years.  A list of alternative titles for these paintings includes “Van Gogh’s Bedroom” and “The Bedroom in Arles.” It isn’t until you look hard at the paintings that you realize the room in these pictures  isn’t yellow at all. Actually, the room is blue. The furniture and his hat are yellow. Van Gogh did do a painting of the outside of his house titled “The Yellow House” and in that work the house is yellow.
